In view of the significance of the Chess for Schools scheme, the Board has concluded that this should be led by a Director dedicated to the project with no other responsibilities. The proposed description of the responsibilities for this post are as follows:
“Has overall responsibility for supervising the national Chess for Schools scheme. This includes the delivery of the chess sets supplied by the sponsors to the schools, development and sale of follow-up support packages to schools, and the establishment of a national network of affiliated chess academies. Is also responsible for identification and implementation of any other measures necessary to ensure the success of the Chess for Schools scheme.
Is responsible for the work of the Manager of Chess for Schools and any other officers who may be appointed to support the initiative.
Liaises with any other ECF officers who are supporting the scheme and in particular the Director of Marketing, the Director of Junior Chess & Education, the Manager of Coaching, and the ECF Office.”
As the Board does not consider that it can dispense with any of the four existing “other” Directorships, it is necessary to increase the maximum size of the Board if such a new Directorship is to be created. The Board is seeking the permission of Council to do this. With the intention of making an appointment at the meeting.
Anyone interested in applying for the new post should contact the ECF Office by Wednesday 15th October.
