48th Richmond Rapidplay, 22 June 2003

The 48th Richmond Rapidplay took place at the White House Community Association, Hampton on Sunday 22 June, controlled by Adam Raoof. A total of 99 players took part in the four sections.

You know you've got a strong Open when the first round pits two IMs against each other. The 13 competitiors included 5 IMs and one IM elect. The outcome was a three-way tie for first place between IMs Graeme Buckley, Danny Gormally and Simon Williams.

There was a two-way tie in the Major between Richmond Junior Megastar Robert Heaton and Alfredo Luaces of King's Head, in a field of 22 players.

The Intermediate section was won by the ungraded Paul Chantrell, on 5/6. Second place was split four ways, with Peter Lord sharing the honours with three talented juniors: Callum Kilpatrick, Alex O'Toole and Senthuran Sathyanandha. 31 players took part.

Richmond Junior Club member Gajern Kailavasan, aged 11, took a half point bye in the first round while taking part in a cricket match, then won all five of his games to take first place, just ahead of his clubmate George Dinenis. There were 33 competitors in total in this section.
