The British Chess Federation (BCF), founded in 1904, is the organisation that controls, directs and promotes the playing of chess in England. It is recognised as such by the UK government as well as the World Chess Federation (FIDE). Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the Channel Islands have their own federations.®

Lancaster & Morcambe Rapidplay, 2 November 2003

The strongest chess congress ever to be held in North Lancashire was hosted by Lancaster & Morcambe Chess Clubs at the Lancaster Royal Grammar School on 2nd November. The 63 entrants included 4 grandmasters who battled for a total prize fund of over £1150. The event qualified for 'Elite' status in the British Chess Federation Grand Prix.
