CCF Autumn Congress, 6-7 September 2003

A total of 98 players contested the Coulsdon Chess Fellowship's Autumn 2003 congress over 5 sections, as opposed to the old 4. All sections were played over 5 rounds.

The Open was again very strong, with 8 players graded 200 or more, but as was the case with our last rapidplay, the winner was someone outside of the 200+ bracket. Mark Lyell won all 4 of his games to take first prize with 4½ out of 5; his other half point coming from the bye he took in round 3. He defeated David Ledger in the final round to take first prize, leaving David and Robert Gwaze joint 2nd.

The tournament was the first in the new season of long play Grand Prix events for CCF. The remaining 2 rounds will be held at Christmas (20-21 December) and Easter (9-10 April).
