National Schools Entries Increase: The English Chess Federation is delighted to announce that entries to its 2007/8 National Schools Championships have risen by around 45 per cent compared with last year.
World Youth Championships, 17-29 November, Turkey: The World Youth Championships are now underway and you can watch the progress of the English squad, read reports and view 40 live games a day from Turkey.
John Robinson Youth Chess Trust: At their Meeting on 24th October the Trustees authorised a number of additional grants mainly for coaching and participation in events.
The income of the Trust, now it is fully invested, is of the order of £24,000 per annum.
Trust Funds are now fully committed until the Autumn of 2008.
The Trustees will consider applications for grants to take effect from then at their next meeting in April.
New Grant applications should be submitted to Cynthia Gurney ( ) in writing by 31st March 2008.
It is important to note that any applications for grants for individual coaching should be first referred to the ECF Director of Junior Chess & Education for advice.

Two BCET Awards to Norwich Schools: One of the ECF’s little known awards is the British Chess Educational Trust Award to Schools. This was established from funds from the late Sir George Thomas and was initially shields to schools which have shown outstanding achievements or enthusiasm in chess ... [30/10/07]
Coaching Opportunity
The English Chess Federation is committed to improving the chess opportunities for juniors in England. As part of our coaching programme, we will be offering top coaching to four English junior players who are competing in the Hastings Masters, at the Hastings International Congress. If there is enough interest, we may extend this opportunity to more players.

World Juniors & Girls Championships, 2-17 October, Armenia Congratulations to Gawain Jones who came 5th= in the World Junior Championships and David Howell who came 26th=. 17th European Youth Chess Championships: This event runs from 13-24 September in Croatia. 766 players from 44 countries will be competing and live games will be broadcast from the tournament website [14/9/07]
English Junior Rapidplay - The ECF are proud to announce the English Junior Rapidplay, organised by the London Chess Centre on behalf of the ECF. The Rapidplay will be organised as an open six-round swiss, with impressive prizes for all age groups. This new event will be held on Saturday 3rd November in London. [13/9/07]

The ECF are thrilled to announce the launch of the new John Robinson World Youth Chess Championship Junior Grand Prix, which gives English juniors the opportunity to win the right to compete in the World Youth Chess Championships 2008. World Youth Under 16 Olympiad 2007: The English under 16 olympiad squad of Ankush, Callum, Subin, Amisha and Jessica face Singapore 4 in the 10th round today (Friday). They currently stand 15th. It's a tough international tournament with the strong Indian (1st) and Hungarian (2nd) teams leading the event as expected. The full results and games can be found on the website.

The All England Girls' Chess Championships National Gold Finals took place on the 30th June, with the a wealth of junior talent competing for national titles. [12/7/07]
The 17 strong England team are doing exceptionally well at the under 14 Dubai junior chess championships. After 6 rounds both Akash Jain and David Grant have 5 points. Rhys Cumming, George Tunstall and Craig Whitfield have 4.5. Further reports to follow ... [9/7/07]

The National Girls' Team Championships were held on the 9th June in the historic grounds of Claremont Fan Court School. County sides, school teams, groups of chess-friends, all were welcome. A tournament report and photos of the day can be found by clicking the above link. [18/6/07]
Victory for England at the Susan Polgar World Open Chess Championships for Girls!
A fantastic result for England, as Emma Bentley storms to victory in the Under 11 world championships, with 5.5 out of 6. You can find the full tournament results here.
Emma's dad David Bentley is doing a great job as the ECF Junior Public Relations Officer and whilst in America is forging new relationships with the United States Chess Federation and SPICE, the Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence.
