Games can only be graded if they are played under acceptable conditions, with clocks. Lightning and Correspondence games are excluded.
The conditions for eligibility used in the 2001/2002 season for the production of this Grading List were as follows:
For the 2002/2003 season, I have aligned the conditions for eligibility of BCF Grading with the FIDE regulations for rating. I have also taken the opportunity to simplify the BCF Grading eligibility conditions. As a consequence the following eligibility conditions will be in force for events from June 6th 2002 onwards:
The FIDE Laws of Chess are used.
One of the following rates of play is complied with:
a. Rapidplay |
Either |
a. each player must have a minimum of 15 minutes and a maximum of 60 minutes for all of his moves. This includes both the initial time control and any subsequent time controls or quickplay finish. |
or |
b. when Fischer (cumulative) mode is used then, using the assumption that the duration of the game is 60 moves, each player must have a minimum of 15 minutes and a maximum of 60 minutes. |
b. Standard Play |
Each player has more time than the maximum defined above for Rapid Play. |
By prior agreement with the Director of Grading the time limits in condition (b) may be reduced for tournaments that consist solely of younger players. If the rate of play for any event is the maximum for Rapid Play then, by prior agreement with the Director, it may be graded as Standard Play.
