County Championships 2007/8 Venue Details & Timetable

As you should know, Andrew Moore has resigned because of a change in personal circumstances. He had made arrangements for the catering which were firmly in place and which I hope will be a success. This replaces the missive Andrew sent out.

Timetable

July 4th
6:30 p.m.
Final time for emailing team lists which must include names, reference nos, grades of players to . These lists may be altered on the day in terms of board order until 1:00 p.m. This first deadline is to enable us to prepare team sheets etc.

July 5th
1:30p.m.
Final time for changing board order. After this direct substitutions only.
Toss for colours takes place. If no-one from your team is present, a member of the controlling team will represent them.
1:45 Opening Ceremony
2:00 Prompt Play Starts
7:00 Play ends (hopefully)
7:05 Presentation Ceremony
7:15 Mass exodus

The controlling team this year is John Shaw (Chief Controller), David Welch, Adrian Elwin, Cyril Johnson. Liz Gist is in charge of results inputting and will be in the small hall. Chess Direct are bringing the bookstall, and Riley’s Catering are doing the refreshments.
This will be on a pay as you eat basis.
Please, under no circumstances, bring alcohol into the school premises. It is not acceptable to the school. There are excellent pubs on London Road, and Granby Street.

If anyone is concerned about using the M1 on July 5th with the free practice at Silverstone, may I suggest using the A1 and then the A47. If you hit problems, please ring me or 0116 260 9012 on the day as Julie will have access to a teletext listing of traffic problems.

From M1
Come off at Junction 21. At first major intersection turn right onto A563, Soar Valley Way for Market Harborough, Leicester South. Carry on until you turn left onto A6 London Rd for City Centre.

Follow this road past the Railway Station, past BLUE TOWER, and get into right hand lane. Turn right at set of traffic lights before Ibis Hotel, into Swain Street, over railway bridge, turn left at next mini-roundabout into Maidstone Road, and car parking is on the left hand side down Hutchinson Street.

From the East, take A47 into Leicester, after traffic lights at Nedham St with Millingtons on left hand side, get in left hand lane, take main road off at large traffic island, heading for city centre, then turn left at traffic lights near Ibis for Swain Street.

If coming by train, come out into booking hall, then turn left onto concourse, walk through taxis, onto Conduit Street, past Jolly Miller Pub, to end of the road, cross over, carefully, and walk down Maidstone Road past Afro-Caribbean Centre on RHS, school is on the left.
